Temptation Through the Eyes of Christ

Here are some discussion questions based on the message:

Icebreaker: Bro Sean shared a funny story about a college student named Joe and a tricky ornithology test. What's a time you felt completely unprepared for a "test" in life, whether it was a school exam, a job interview, or a challenging situation?

Bro. Sean emphasized that Jesus was "led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil." How does understanding that God allows or even orchestrates such tests, even using the devil, change your perspective on difficulties you face?

The message highlighted that Satan often attacks after spiritual victories, when we're alone, or when we're feeling weak. Can you recall a time when you experienced temptation or discouragement in one of these vulnerable moments? What did you learn from it?

For silent reflection: Bro. Sean reminded us of 1 John 2:16: "For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world." Take a moment to silently consider which of these three areas (lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, or pride of life) you find yourself most susceptible to in your daily life.

Jesus countered every temptation with "It is written," quoting scripture. How does this example challenge or encourage you regarding your own engagement with God's Word as a "defensive and offensive weapon"?

Bro. Sean shared a powerful quote: "Only the sinless individual can know the power of temptation in its full intensity because only that individual endures until the temptation is broken." How does Jesus' perfect endurance in temptation deepen your appreciation for His role as our High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15)?

Bro. Sean concluded by saying, "If you don't run into Satan, maybe it's because you're both going in the same direction." What does this challenging statement stir in your heart, and how might it prompt you to re-evaluate your "sideline" or "neutral" positions in the spiritual battle?

Considering Jesus' example of walking in obedience and submission to the Father, and yielding to the Holy Spirit, what is one concrete step you can take this week to apply these principles in your own struggle against temptation?
